A BABY born weighing just 1lb 5oz has survived despite doctors telling his parents he would die on five separate occasions after contracting deadly meningitis and sepsis.

Hanna Rose, 25, from Worksop, Nottinghamshire, gave birth to “little warrior” George three months prematurely in July last year.

The tiny tot was put on life support just six minutes after he was born and has since been rushed in and out of hospital suffering life-threatening illnesses.

Hanna and her partner Daniel Bownes, 27, were told George would died after he was treated for meningitis, contracted sepsis four times, and received more than 20 blood transfusions.

But against the odds, nine-month-old George has made a miracle recovery and is now living at home with his mum and dad.

Careworker Hanna told the Daily Star Sunday: “I was convinced he was going to die so it’s truly a miracle that he’s here with us.”

She explained that before she got to hold him, George was scooped away and taken to intensive care where doctors placed him in specialised incubator.

Hanna added: “He was given immediate surgery. We couldn’t touch him because he was born with transparent skin.”

I was convinced he was going to die so it’s truly a miracle that he’s here with us.

George had been suffering from necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a condition in newborns where part of the bowel dies.

During the surgery for NEC the tough tot lost 40 per cent of his blood and suffered a swollen liver.

He then contracted meningitis and sepsis because of issues linked to his premature birth.

Doctors told his distressed parents that they had never seen a newborn with an infection so severe survive.

Convinced he would not make it, Hana and Daniel agreed to allow a hospital chaplain come and give George his final blessing.

But astonishingly after the blessing was complete, George’s vital signs began to improve.

Hana and Daniel were reading to him, in what they thought were his final hours of life, when they suddenly saw his blood pressure started to rise.

Now home safe and sound, George weighs 6lb 2oz, but still needs an Oxygen tank to help him breathe.

The tot still faces a seventh surgery for his heart and his parents have been raising money for physiotherapy on GoFundMe.

Support for the little lad poured out online, with many astonished George has overcome so much hardship at such an early stage of life.

One wrote: “What an absolute little warrior this kid is.”

Another said: “Goodness what an absolute warrior not just a fighter! Such a sweetie too. Hoping he goes on to have a wonderful life.”

He was released this week after dozens of health scares
